The Qiu is handy, can be used anywhere and anytime and, above all, is suitable for everyone (individually adjustable).
The simple and mobile availability of the training device in a handy format facilitate success, since no participation in a course or the like is required.
With the Qiu you have your relaxation – in the truest sense of the word – in your own hands. The ability to relax can be trained with the small ball. The Qiu from the manufacturer Biosign is a mobile biofeedback device that measures the heart rate variability and provides information about the current status during training: If it lights up green, the parasympathetic recovery program is active.
I am a big fan of the Qius. Since I spend most of the day at the computer, I’m happy when I don’t need it and get away from it. This is possible with the Qiu. It works independently of any equipment. He needs two batteries, the complete discharge of which is reported in good time. I can take it with me everywhere and it also looks chic – which is not the case with all medical devices.
At first glance, the Qiu looks a bit like a magic ball. Sometimes its hemisphere glows bright red, then it changes over many nuances until it shines in apple green. The play of colors has nothing at all to do with esotericism, only the measurement of the heart rate variability (HRV) determines the change. Red stands for the predominant activity of the sympathetic nervous system and green for the predominant influence of the parasympathetic nervous system. By changing the colors, you can clearly see which part of the vegetative nervous system (VNS) is currently predominant.
The background to the color spectacle is again how variably the heart can beat. The calculation of the degree of rhythm is the whole magic of the little ball. It evaluates the quality and quantity of respiratory sinus arrhythmia (RSA). The quantity is about the size (amplitude) of the respiratory sinus arrhythmia. The quality expresses whether there are other control processes in addition to the respiratory sinus arrhythmia that influence the heartbeat.
The secret of Qius and all other HRV biofeedback procedures is the degree of rhythm. He can be trained in a targeted manner. The aim is to have a large respiratory sinus arrhythmia and few other regulatory processes.
Can be used anywhere and without a PC
As with all biofeedback devices, the basis for measuring is the pulse. On the Qiu, an optical sensor field is built into the device. With light pressure, it records the pulse wave on the hand or fingers. Those who tend to have cold hands or low blood pressure should use the ear clip as an alternative. It also offers the possibility of a more comfortable posture during training. When using the pulse sensor on the ear, it must only be ensured that it is plugged in before switching on the Qius.
The Qiu begins to pulsate blue to the rhythm of the heartbeat as soon as it can measure the pulse. After a few seconds the play of colors begins. Depending on how much the heart rate changes with the rhythm of breathing, the colors change from red to green.
Conscious breathing is the key to biofeedback training. Small LED lights on the Qiu set a breathing rhythm. They light up one after the other, helping you to inhale and exhale calmly and evenly. They are only used for orientation, because first and foremost breathing should be easy, i.e. without stress and shortness of breath. For this reason, the breathing display can also be set individually.
The training shows an effect from the very first day and is aimed directly at strengthening the immune system and maintaining health. The effect is achieved by strengthening the parasympathetic nervous system.
With the help of a pulse sensor, the biofeedback training device records the pulse on the hand – or with a clip on the ear. At the same time, this is analyzed and reported back to the trainee in real time by means of colors (red / green). An LED bar shows the trainee the breathing rate, which he can set individually. The deep breathing should ideally take place with a frequency of approx. 6 breaths / minute in order to effectively address the parasympathetic nervous system.
If the parasympathetic nervous system is weakened, this shows in a low heart rate variability (HRV), which stands for a significantly increased health risk. Improving HRV through biofeedback training with the Qiu biofeedback device is therefore an important approach in medicine for the prevention and therapy support of common diseases (cardiovascular diseases, high blood pressure, diabetes, depression, migraines, etc.).
Slow and calm breathing is the goal of every qiu practice. Then the influence on the heart is great and the parasympathetic nervous system is active. The Qiu glows green. With faster breathing, the beneficial influence is lost. The sympathetic takes control of the heart and the qiu turns red. If the session is successful, the Qiu will glow green for 50 to 80 percent of the exercise time. If it is less or more the case, the default value should be changed accordingly.
The biofeedback training should not only give direct feedback about what you are doing, but also convey a good feeling. That is why the correct setting of the default value is important, because this is the only way to improve your own perception. If it is set too low or too high, i.e. green for more than 80 or less than 50 percent of the exercise time, the Qiu cannot report back the fine interplay of psyche and heart.
All settings such as exercise time, breathing rhythm, default value and brightness of the colors can be made on the device itself – somewhat complicated, but possible once you have understood the menu structure – or very easily with the help of a small Windows program (download from the website of the Manufacturer). A signal check can also be carried out here in order to find the correct exercise and holding position for the Qiu in the hand.
The Qiu stores 500 exercise units with date and exercise time in an internal memory. With the software, the data can be transferred to the PC for evaluation and forwarding to a therapist
End users can only buy the Qiu through a therapist and / or rent it for a certain period of time. Contact with a therapist is important to the manufacturer in order to ensure correct application at the beginning. Further use can be done on your own. There are also no software license costs after purchasing the Qius. The basic principle of the application is also available as a video.
You also need patience when practicing with the Qiu – as with all biofeedback devices. Changes take time and regularity. Think of it as a tool that makes it easier for you to be mindful of yourself. In the little Qiu booklet (included in the scope of delivery or available individually in bookstores or from Biosign) it is recommended to train for 20 to 30 minutes a day, which can be divided into three times 10 minutes.
